A sweet purse

This is the fourth time I have subscribed to the Bag of the Month Club. It’s a really good deal to get some sweet purse and tote bag patterns. I really love my current purse — the Ring Sling by Mrs. H.

February’s pattern was the Layla Essentials Purse by Andrie Designs, a small wallet/purse. The outer fabric I selected is a slub satin look home decor fabric — not too stiff so I doubled up the interfacing on the outer layer and omitted the fusible fleece (since what I have is quite bulky). I won’t mince words–turning the wallet through the zip pocket led to some choice words and sore hands, but I finally made it. My machine gave up on the final topstitching so I decided it was ok without it.

While looking for a small hook for the strap, I realized that this Women in Nuclear lanyard (yes, I work in the nuclear power industry) could be used, so I quickly cut it down. The interior fabrics are a variety of designers — Anna Maria Horner, Amy Butler, and Tula Pink, to use up scraps and keep it bright and fun. I sewed this on my Pfaff, not on the Singer (but it makes a cute backdrop).
