Anthem – Project Quilting 10.2

The inspiration was red, white, and blue for the second challenge of Project Quilting, but the additional comments about flags got me thinking about representations of that most iconic song (barely ahead of the Hockey Night in Canada theme)–O Canada.

So I made maple leaf blocks from my scrap bins, and then sandwiched the panel to quilt the lines of a music staff (in navy blue thread). The musical notes and clef are appliqued in place, and play the introduction to O Canada. The pink musical note fabric fits the theme since pink is a tint of red. Some simple top stitching was all the finish this project needed, then I created a back and handles from this canvas (from the thrift shop).

Because while mini quilts are nice, an I’m-way-ahead-of-the-game end of year tote bag gift for the music teacher is better.

I had never competed before, not thinking I could do it, but thank you Kim for the challenge!

Well done! This is my second year with the challenge. Some weeks are more challenging than others, but it’s a good exercise.

    1. Of course it took longer than I planned, but I feel my creative muscles were well exercised!

  2. This is lovely and so good to have a personalised gift in the bag – literally!! I’ve partcipated in Project Quilting before but to make something in a week does require all the stars to be aligned so I have that I have enough free time. But it’s fun….

    1. I have far too many projects on the go but it’s a nice feeling to have a finish. I have one from the first week that I didn’t finish which needs some work too.

  3. This is a great project! I have yet to do any of the project quilting challenges. Maybe next week.

    1. I am definitely in awe of those people who make baby or larger quilts in a week. But it is a fun challenge if you have the time to devote to it.

I’m beyond happy you joined in the fun and took on the challenge! Your tote is fabulous and it’s just so cool to see how the same challenge inspires folks in different ways.

    1. Thank you Kim!
